IDENTIFY THE PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE YOU: EGBE, OLOWO
When we think of Orisa Lifestyle, the first thing that comes to mind is usually related to the efforts required to get the outcomes we want; money, spouse, power. The reality of the universe, however, is not OUTCOME based. It’s actually RELATIONSHIP-based. Ecosystems, planetary systems as well as human biological systems are all driven by relationships, as opposed to outcomes. In life, for every desired outcome, there is a complex of system of relationships between seen and unseen forces. Typically, consumer lifestyle separates us from the source of our material culture. That is, we have little or no direct relationship with the manufacturers and producers of our gadgets, clothes and food. The big problem with this experience is that, over time, we become conditioned to not even think about where things come from and how we are directly related to the source of the products we use on a day-to-day basis.
  3. Now, the real impact of the separation between ourselves and the things we consume is that it also divides us from the people around us; our families, friends and community-members. Consequently, instead of using things and loving people, we end up loving our things and using people. Òrìsà Lifestyle provides a real solution to this serious problem. So, what follows are practices that will help you Live the Medicine of mutually-beneficial, service-driven relationships.
Written Exercise: You cannot choose your family. But you CAN choose who you want to deal with and under which circumstances. So, it’s important to get super clear about what kinds of people do and do not inspire you to continuously improve. Before you start to move towards assembling your dream team, however, you have to screen out everyone who would compromise the integrity of your circle. Consequently, the next step in your Live the Medicine strategy is to identify the types of people you don’t want to work with. In an effort to establish a filtration process, let’s consider which characteristics or behaviors you refuse to tolerate:
 What turns you off or shuts you down?
 What kinds of people should not be getting past the filtration process that protects you and your vision?
Written Exercise: Now take a good, hard look at your current circle or circles, including your friends, colleagues and clients. You must be absolutely honest with yourself. Using the characteristics you just created, who are the people in your current community that should not have gotten past the filtration process that protects you and your vision?
Live the Medicine Action Step: Dump ALL the duds you’ve just listed in the above exercise. It may be just one person or you may need another two pages to write them all down. This has very serious implications, I know. You may have known some of these people for decades. But if those relationships do not help you live the medicine then what ARE they doing, exactly? By now, just the idea of dumping the duds either has you outraged, overjoyed or dismayed. Either way, it’s completely fine! The most important thing to do is complete the process and never look back. The next exercise will give you insights into why.

Written Exercise: The Eastern philosophies say that, “Only an empty vessel can be filled.” Now that you have dumped the duds it’s time to envision something better for yourself. Define your ideal clients, colleagues and members of your community. List the specific qualities, values, or personal characteristics you’d like your ideal circle to possess.
  4.   What type of people do you love being around?
  What do they like to do?
  What do they talk about?
  With whom do they associate?
  What ethical standards do they follow?
      How do they learn?
  How do they contribute to society?
  Are they smiling, outgoing, creative?
  What kind of environment do you want to create in your life?
  And who will get past the filtration process that protects you and your vision?
Written Exercise: Now let’s take inventory of your community to date. Write down the names of existing clients, people you’ve worked with, people you’ve worked for, whom you love to be around.
  Who do you love interacting with the most?
  Who do you look forward to seeing?
  Who are your clients who don’t feel like work to you?
  Who is it that you sometimes just can’t believe you get paid to work with?
Written Exercise: See a clear picture of these people in your mind. Write down the top five reasons that you love working with them. What about working with them inspires you?
