Orisa Lifestyle Activities: Week 14
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Compost: We tend to think it after the fact, but really, the most effective way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place. Making a new product requires a lot of materials and energy: raw materials must be extracted from the earth, which creates waste. Then, the product must be fabricated and then transported to wherever it will be sold. Once purchased and used, more waste is generated by its disposal. This is true of non-consumable items, like shoes and consumables, like food. At every phase, waste must be managed. As a result, reduction, reuse, recycling and composting are the most effective ways you can save natural resources, protect the environment, and save money. This is in total alignment with Orisa Lifestyle on so many levels. For example, the notion of sacrifice is based upon the law of reciprocity, which teaches us the give and take nature of life. In addition, the orisa are associated with natural phenomena, like rivers, trees, ocean and even the earth itself. As such, it is impossible to be devoted to the divinities and indiscriminately destroy the environment at the same time. The contradiction is overwhelming. The activity that follows is designed to help you to practice Orisa Lifestyle through reducing, reusing, recycling and composting.
